Last Wednesday night my girls were getting ready for bed while I was scanning through Instagram. I noticed that a bunch of my blogging friends were together in a group “Where are you guys?” I commented. And, “Did my invite get lost in the mail? ;-)”
Turned out that it was a PaleoFX conference. I was so snug in my cookbook bubble (my deadline is fast approaching) that I didn’t even realize. D’oh!
But my amazing husband grabbed the laptop, bought me a ticket, booked me a hotel room, and told me I had to go. At 9:30 PM I ran to the store for supplies: eggs to hard boil, Applegate chicken, and almonds. I stayed up most of the night packing. (So happy I had just painted my toenails the day prior :-)
We set the alarm, woke the kids, got in the car, and drove to the airport. Ginger and I hopped on a little plane (Did I mention I get air sickness? Thank goodness for Rescue Remedy!) and we flew to Austin.
All I can say is that it was fun. Crazy and hectic, but FUN. Ginger had a blast too. She rode around on me, often surprising people when I hugged them hello and their hands met Ginger riding on my back. Oh yeah, sorry, there’s a baby back there! haha! But she was a hit, as you can imagine. At dinner the first night she literally licked her plate clean:
I got to meet so many amazing people in person who I’ve only ever known on this laptop here. Stacy and Matt, Joshua, Jenni and Ben, Hayley and Bill, Tammy, Sarah, Diane, Jill, and Danielle (who I did get to meet once before in Boulder!), my amazing publisher, just to name a few.
Joshua snapped this photo of us at the mother ship Whole Foods:
And Stacy snapped this one of me seeing my new cookbook cards for the first time at my publisher’s table:
As Erich pointed out, I was smiling the whole time!
