I was inspired to make homemade dairy-free eggnog by Sunny at And Love it Too. (Make sure you check out her great tips for separating eggs!) You may prefer Sunny's recipe, which has less coconut milk and more sweetness, but I thought I would share my version also.
Eggnog, dairy-free, refined-sugar free
Blend:
8 egg yolks
1 can of full-fat Thai Kitchen coconut milk
Pour into a mixing bowl and set aside.
Add to a medium/large sized pot:
3 cups unsweetened Tempt hemp milk1 cans of full-fat Thai Kitchen coconut milk
1/2 cup coconut sugar, which is low glycemic index
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice
Bring to simmer.
Slowly ladle a little of the hot liquids into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
After you have whisked in about a cup of the hot liquids, transfer the yolk mixture to the pot.
Whisk while simmering for about three minutes.
Remove from heat and serve or refrigerate for later.

What is hemp milk? I am completely grain free, dairy free, and legume free, and soy free, though I DO eat eggs. If hemp will create a sensitivity for me, what can I substitute for it?
I am DYING to try this now! It's on our Christmas menu for sure. My kids are going to be so excited to have this treat. I think I might try subbing cashew milk for the hemp though. Thank you Kelly!
Hemp milk is amazing! It's made out of hemp seeds. Definitely dairy-free and soy-free
Gorgeous, Kelly! I still haven't tried hemp milk, but clearly should. ;-) I'm ready for some dairy-free + more-free egg nog. :-)

Wow, $30 for Coconut sugar! Yikes. Can you substitute honey or agave? Looks delicious. Love your video's and recipes.
this looks delish!
Thanks guys!
Hemp is a seed, but cashew or almond would work fine too.
Nelle, The $30 is for 6 pounds of coconut sugar, but you could substitute any sweetener.
What a beautiful photo! I've never been a fan of eggnog, but your recipe has inspired me to try it again. :)
Eggnog is the BEST. I would use raw milk instead of hemp here.
I think I need to make this. Sounds delish.
Is this the egg nog ice cream recipe with egg you reference in your book? I've been all over your site trying to find it...
