Spunky BBQ Sauce

Lately it has been very hot here in the Colorado Front Range. Rather than heat up the house by turning on the oven, we've used the grill a couple of times now. What is it about the smell of wood chips burning? Ohh... it smells so good. I feel like I'm camping without ever leaving my porch :-)

Here is my homemade BBQ sauce recipe. I hope you enjoy it.

Spunky BBQ Sauce:

Add to blender or food processor:
1/2 cup water (plus more as needed)
1/4 cup + 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
12 oz organic tomato paste
1/2 cup honey
2 tbsp GF worcestershire
2 tsp GF tamari sauce
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp celery seed powder
1/4 tsp chili powder (—For mild. Add more for medium or hot.)
3/4 tsp sea salt

Puree.

Makes about 3 cups.

♥, Kelly

Kelly, this looks great! Also I was wondering what brand of honey do you prefer? We have yeast as a common problem with my son and I am buying Nature's Hollow honey-substitute product that uses Xylitol. I'm not crazy about this product because I find it very watery and lacking in any nutrients. Thank you for any suggestions!

Sounds and looks great, Kelly! :-) Camping without leaving one's porch is a lot less work. ;-)

Yum--I LOVE homemade BBQ sauce! Being born and raised in Memphis, TN, BBQ is somehow part of my blood ;)
Your recipe looks very similar to mine, but I'm looking forward to trying this variation!

Hi Kelly, I just found your blog's link hidden amongst all the links in my bookmarks and I'm glad I did! I love coconut, especially the oil and have been using a couple spoonfuls every day for about a year. I'm sure this is why I've seen some improvement in my lab numbers. I also love that you are gluten and sugar free. I have a grown daughter who recently found that she has celiac disease. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have much time to cook but I'm going to look through your recipes and find one or two to try while I'm on vacation this week :-)

I just finished making BBQ sauce and realized I'd missed something but couldn't put my finger on it. It was TOTALLY chili powder. Adding it to the remainder now!

Hi, Kelly, I've taken Worcestershire sauce out of my diet because of the refined sugar it contains, so I was surprised to see that you used it in this recipe. Is there a special brand of sauce that you use?
