This was about 13 dollars for 300 caps! I think it would have been about 30 dollars for that many at the health food store! Though I usually get the liquid flax seed oil there, and I would much rather swallow a capsule! It's organic and cold pressed. So happy about this! FYI - it says to store at room temperature, but I totally disagree. I'm keeping it in the fridge with all my other nuts, seeds, and nut/seed butters.
We were having homemade curry the other night, and I was wishing I had some raisins to add. I don't remember seeing these last time I went to Costco, but yesterday there they were. I'm also going to use them for granola and ice cream. Finally, I had to buy this because it's organic, and such a bargain! We hardly ever use tomato sauce, so it should last a long time. I'm really critical of store bought tomato sauce, and we tried this - it's really yummy. I was impressed. And for the health conscious - the tomatoes are vine-ripened, and not genetically engineered. Very cool. If only I could get Costco to pay me for these plugs!

Sounds like going to Costco can be full of pleasant surprises for you! FYI--I recently read some interesting info/warnings about flax seed oil at The Nourishing Gourmet site, so I want to ask my alternative doctor more about it the next time I see her. Here's the link if you want to read what Kimi shared. I had not seen this info before.

Hi Shirley!
Sorry it took me so long to read that article! It seemed very well researched and unbiased, and I do agree with all things in moderation. I think too much of even a good thing, can be a bad thing. Ya know?
Also I noticed she mentioned hemp and went right over it, leading me to believe it does not contain phytoestrogens or phytic acid. And hemp is an excellent source of essential fatty acid. Makes me wonder - does it come in supplement form? Though I do drink home made hemp milk in small quantities almost every day.
Food for thought ;-)
No worries! Just wanted to pass the info along. She actually did another post on hemp seed (link at bottom). She talks about it NOT containing phytic acid. No mention of phytoestrogens, so I am assuming there are none. As far as supplements, I knew there was hemp seed and hemp seed oil and I just found some hemp seed oil capsules online. Hemp seed is wonderful in recipes. It is expensive, but is one of those things that can be found at more reasonable prices with some investigating.

Curious, so I looked some more. From this link, http://face-natural.com/blog/natural-skin-care-articles/benefits-of-hemp-seed-for-natural-skin-care:
"Flax seed oil is controversial as a supplement in women that have estrogen dominant conditions such as breast cancer, fibroids, endometriosis, etc. because it contains chemicals that act as phytoestrogens whereas Hemp contains no such phytoestrogens."

Thanks Shirley!
I would be sure that taking flaxseed oil supplements is a wise thing to do. Omega 6's are more and more being seen as a major culprit in modern societies health woes. It's very important to get your Omega 3's in proper proportion with the 6's and 9's, but the problem is that so much of todays food has WAY too much of the 6's and there's no need to supplement it with even more via flaxseed oil. I steer away from almost all vegetable oils except for *uncooked* olive or grapeseed oils for salads and such, and only use lard, butter, virgin unfractionated coconut oil and palm oil (not palm kernal) when using heat. The wisest nutritionist on the face of the planet is at the Weston-Price Foundations, they've been warning us about the dangers of low-fat diet for years before it became clear that we weren't getting enough of the good fats in our diets.

another great tomato sauce find, for me, was organic tomato paste in a glass jar. really tasty and so much easier to use than opening a can and either throwing out half of it or having to find something else to store it in.
