Apples with Almond Butter

Ashley has been using Biociden for a while now. It kills yeast overgrowth and bacteria in the gut, and is a natural alternative to prescription anti-fungals. Full of berries and herbs, it doesn't taste too bad. My routine is: Upon waking - 1 tsp Klaire Labs probiotics. Shortly after - a glass of water with lemon. Next is breakfast. About an hour after breakfast we do the Biociden. About an hour later we are seeing tons of yeast/bacteria in her diaper. She has been on it for a week now, and this is the second time we have used it. (I stopped using it too soon last time.)

The past few days Ashley's belly has been flatter than ever before. (I had gotten so used to it being distended that I hardly noticed it.) She is also much clearer and more focused. She has a longer attention span, and has been saying much more. Today she said "yes" for the first time! I whipped my head around so fast and asked her sister, who was sitting beside her, "Did Ashley just answer me or was that you?" "It was Ashley, Mommy!" Zoe said with excitement. God bless her! She also gave me a big kiss today when I asked for one (usually she only takes kisses, but loves to be held). Granted her mouth was wide open, but am I complaining? No!

Standing in line on Sunday for two hours with our friends, Zoe, Mark, Maximo & Oliver.

This is a healthy treat I used to eat all the time, but had forgotten. My friend, Sally, reminded me of the simple pleasure of apples with almond butter. Just swirl in some honey and spread it on your favorite sliced apples. The kids eat it up. I also love it on celery sticks.

Definitely one of my favorite snacks as well. Although I like almond butter on my carrots & celery too!

Kelly, I recently started soaking my almonds prior to making almond butter, and it is coming out really strange--more like almond meal. I never had any problems in the past when I did not soak my almonds, it always tasted great and came out looking like what almond butter usually looks like. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Sas ps we're making your pumpkin pancakes for Thanksgiving morning! Peace

Kelly,
do you soak your almonds before making the almond butter? I never used to soak my almonds, and had wonderful almond butter! Now, since soaking them, the finished product is really "weird". Hardly spreadable, just does not taste or look the same. Any thoughts?

Hi Saskia! I usually buy almond butter, but when I make it, I don't soak the nuts. That is probably the problem. :-)

Hi Kelly,

You've mentioned in several places that your daughter Ashley has struggled with yeast overgrowth, yet I notice that all of your recipes contain honey/coconut sugar/agave, etc - and you all seem to partake!

Has Ashley always eaten these forms of sugar? Or when you were trying to rid her body of the yeast, did you avoid all of this? From the reading I've done it seems that one must avoid all forms of sugar - including fruit - as well as all carbohydrates, starches, vinegar, etc.

And if you did avoid all these things, how long did you do it for? Did you do the Biociden in conjunction with this cleansing diet? For how long? How did you know when all the yeast was gone?

I'm so sorry to ask all these questions, I guess I'm just looking for some answers!

Thanks so much for your time, I hope your daughter's health - and that of your whole family - continues to improve!

Hi Sarah!

I don't mind your questions at all :-) We use a DAN! doctor who tested Ashley's urine through a lab to see if the yeast was gone. It's called an OAT, organic acid test. Ashley's diet was low on all the foods you mentioned when we were doing Biociden, but she did have some.

Also I knew it was gone because she changed so much, like I mentioned in this post. But it was good to have the test to prove it :-) We do that test once or twice a year.

Best, Kelly

P.S. - Sorry, one more thing! I clicked on the link for the Biociden and it was no longer active. Do you know if it is still being produced?

Thanks Sarah! I wish you all the same :-)

I think it's still being produced. I would have to ask our DAN! doc. That's where I got it.

Hi Kelly!

I came across this post about using the probiotics and Biocidin for your daughter's overactive yeast. I would like to know which Klaire probiotic you used and was the Biocidin in liquid form? My three year old son has always struggled with very pungent bowel movement and does have a "puffy" or almost distended abdomen as you described. We too live and eat like you so this really got my attention and would love any of the information so I can try this approach with him. Thank you and keep up with your spunky coconut, I'm addicted to your recipes!
